Gabriel, D.O. | SouthamptonDr. Nick Gabriel, formerly the Director of Bariatric Surgery is now the newly appointed Co-Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Co-Director of the DaVinci Robotic Program at St. Catherine of Siena.  He graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1994, where he currently holds a position as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. After completing a residency in General Surgery at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, an affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, he went on to complete a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. Afterwards he joined the faculty at Yale and taught extensively. He still trains and proctors for surgical industry for all types of minimally invasive surgical procedures. Dr. Gabriel has become well known as a weight loss surgeon and is one of the first surgeons to perform “Lap Band” procedures in Brooklyn and Long Island. He serves as one of the elite few proctors for this procedure in the country. With regards to being a pioneer in bariatric surgery, Dr. Gabriel is the first surgeon in the Northeast to perform Gastric Plication surgery for weight loss. Other cutting edge surgeries performed by Dr. Gabriel is SILS, (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery). This surgery involves performing surgeries through a single incision in the umbilicus, therefore making it practically “scar-less”. He was the first to perform such surgeries in Suffolk County. The next frontier is Robotic Surgery. Dr. Gabriel was initially trained in Robotic surgery during his time at Yale University back in 1999. The robot has since undergone multiple evolutions and is now ready to be used in all types of surgical procedures. Dr. Gabriel is the first to perform surgical procedures with the DaVinci robot at St. Catherine of Siena.

Dr. Gabriel has appeared on the Discovery Channel, CNN, ABC-TV, UPN9 News, Telecare Health Channel, and has been featured on radio stations such as WPLJ, WBLI, and WBAB. He has also been featured in “The New York Daily News” and other well known publications.
